Sangha Lodge

Central African Republic, is it safe?

Almost all travel advise one comes across have a hint of negative reporting about the Central African Republic. At least some governments acknowledge that Bangui is really not an unsafe place, but the general feeling is that CAR is a no go danger zone.

This is absolutely not true. Even Rod Cassidy who literally lives at the lodge outside of Bangui reckons a Londoner would feel safer walking late at night in the streets of Bangui than in parts of London.

Yes there are pockets of places, notably the borders of Chad and Sudan that remain volatile due to rebel activity.

This is a country of extraordinary and remarkable beauty. The real Africa that is unspoilt by mass tourism. The exclusivity of the area is refreshing to say the very least.

This is a state of great potential, politics aside only the inhabitants can make it work.

Where in CAR is Sangha Lodge?

Sangha Lodge is to be found on the banks of the Sangha River in The Dzangha-Sangha special reserve; a protected reserve of south-western Central African Republic.

Dzanga-Sangha Forest Reserve lies in the extreme southwest of the Central African Republic, bordering Cameroon to the southwest and Republic of Congo to the southeast.
Dzanga-Sangha Forest Reserve is ecologically rich and contains a variety of mega fauna such as Western Lowland Gorillas, African Forest Elephants, Bongo antelopes, African Forest Buffalos and grey-cheeked Mangabey, duikers and many different bird species.
In the midst of all these Natural wonders is the Sangha Lodge. Currently having 7 rooms, the lodge is being developed further.
